Summer Lunch Sack Program

Our Summer Lunch Sack Program will begin on Monday, June 1st, 2026. If you ARE NOT already registered for our pantry, please read below on what you will need to do to register. You can come one time a month and receive a bag of kid friendly lunch items for each child K-12 grade. You will also receive a peanut butter & jelly and a box of kid friendly cereal. 

Upcoming closed dates for our food pantry:

  • Monday, May 25th, Memorial Day 
  • Thursday, July 2nd and Monday, July 6th in honor of Independence Day (we are always closed on Fridays)
  • Monday, September 7th, Labor Day
  • Monday, October 12th, Columbus Day
  • Wednesday, November 11th, Veterans Day
  • Wednesday and Thursday, November 25th & 26th, Thanksgiving (we are always closed on Fridays)
  • Wednesday and Thursday, December 23rd, 24th & Friday the 25th, Christmas 
  • Thursday, December 31st and Friday January 1st, New Years Day

Our food pantry provides individuals and families with up to five days’ worth of food for their family size. You are welcome to come in one time each month to “grocery shop” and pick out the groceries that you enjoy eating and cooking with. We offer meat and canned goods, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, cereals, and rice, bread and bakery products, and we also have treats and goodies for the kids (or kids at heart).

Our Food Pantry is open:

  • Monday through Thursday from 11AM-2PM 
  • We are open on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 5PM to 7PM   

When arriving to the pantry you will receive a number and will be called back in the order you came.

Pantry Requirements:

You must be a resident of the North Township which includes Hammond, Highland, Munster, Griffith, East Chicago & Whiting.

All clients must provide an Indiana State Issued Picture I.D. each time they come to the food pantry.

New Food Pantry clients are required to provide the following documents on their first visit.

Current proof of residency in the North Township. Any of the below will be accepted.

  • Utility Bill (Nipsco, water, cable, etc.), current
  • Current signed lease
  • Township Trustee printout showing current address
  • Any government printout showing current address
  • Other legal or business mail showing your name and address, current

       

For a family of more than TWO we need proof of Household Size.

  • Mail coming to the residence with additional adult(s) family member’s name
  • Birth Certificates (for children)
  • Any government assistance showing household members
  • School schedule or report card with child’s name and address
